  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1 cup no-sugar-added ketchup
  • ¼ cup maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • 1 tablespoon cooking spray or olive oil

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a nonstick skillet, coat with cooking spray or olive oil. Heat over medium heat and sauté the onion until soft and golden.
  3. In a large bowl, combine ketchup, maple syrup (or honey), mustard, vinegar, paprika, garlic powder, pepper, and salt. Whisk until smooth.
  4. Add the rinsed beans and sautéed onions to the sauce. Stir gently to coat the beans.
  5. Transfer to a greased 8x8-inch baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  6. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 15–20 minutes until caramelized and bubbling.
  7. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.
